He is super popular, but not always in a good way. Did you know that we are eating so much fish that Bob and the ocean are about to go extinct due to overfishing and destructive fishing methods? Isn’t that crazy? What have we come to. Poor popular Bob. Did you also know that the ocean creates 50-80% of the oxygen we breathe?
So no Bob, means no us.. Yikes!
WANNA KNOW HOW
TO SAVE BOB?
WHY WE EXIST
Hooked was founded to solve this pressing issue, we asked “What if we could create a new seafood that has great taste, all the good nutrients but could be produced in large scale without harming Bob and our Ocean?”
And that is what we have been doing everyday since we started in 2019. Our purpose is to lead the transition to healthier marine ecosystems by developing the next generation of seafood that is good for you and our oceans. Truly. We develop everything in Sweden and produce in Europe. Did we say it also tastes great? 😉
MAKING OUR OCEANS THRIVE AGAIN!
9 out of 10 fish species are fully exploited or overfished which means that if we fish any more we are threatening the species to go extinct. Still, consumption is estimated to increase +30% between 2010 and 2030 but the supply is just not there for all of us to eat that much fish.
So, why should I care about this? You might ask. Well, firstly you might want your kids to one day have seafood, secondly our Oceans produce between 50-80% of the oxygen we breathe, absorbs 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions and captures 90% of the excess heat generated by these emissions. Kind of important then that our oceans and fish are healthy, don’t you think?
More than 12 million tons of plastic end up in our seas every year which mostly consists of fishing nets, ropes and lines. This plastic that floats around freely in the ocean is not only a problem because it is a silent killing device trapping fish without anyone eating it, this plastic also dissolves into microplastics which gets into our seafood and into YOUR body when eating your seafood family dinner. Sad (because seafood tastes so good!), but unfortunately true..
Let’s have fish in our oceans not plastics? And let’s have good nutrition in our body and not plastics? Plastic free. Wouldn’t that be lovely? 🙂
SEAFOOD WITHOUT THE CATCH
We love the taste of fish, but we do not love the fishing industry. It is estimated that we catch about 0.97-2.7 trillion fish (with a T!) each year and about 40% of the fish caught worldwide is unintentionally caught by the huge fishing nets – and is partly thrown back into the sea, either dead or dying. So that means about atleast 48 times the world human population is killed every year just by bycatch. Killed for no reason. Sounds weird? Because it is.
Among this bycought fish you have as many as 50 million sharks and over 300 000 whales and dolphins that are killed every year.
Plant-based seafood is always 100% free from bycatch and keeps the fish in the ocean, where they belong. Sounds good? Because it is.
GOOD FOR THE OCEAN AND FOR YOU!
At the same time, pollution has led to higher levels of heavy metals and microplastics in our oceans, which get into the seafood we eat. Did you know an average person now eats about 1 credit card (5 grams) of plastic per WEEK nowadays? How crazy.
So… what if we could save Bob and the ocean by creating something new? Not fish, but fish..ish. The delicious fish experience, packed with protein, omega-3, vitamins, minerals for a reasonable price that is easy to cook and puts no further pressure on our beautiful oceans. That’s what we are all about.
JOIN THE GOOD WAVES
We invite you to join our movement, the Good Waves of Hooked and the new generation of seafood.
When great people join forces, extraordinary things are made. The Good Waves is a revolt against the forces of darkness in the seafood industry. A revolt against the mindless destructive fishing methods, overpopulated and polluted industry fish farms and the massive amounts of bycatch being caught everyday from our oceans.
We are a force for Good that want to make our Oceans thrive again. When you leave this life behind, laying on your death bed, you want to look back at your life and be proud of what you fought for, proud of what you changed and proud of what side of history you were on.
The Good Waves community is fighting for a better ocean, seafood industry and ultimately a better world. Become a Good Wave and join the change!
